Amber blocks are an old Moroccan tradition — solid perfume kept among linens and clothes, long before anything came in a bottle. Each block is cast and left to set slowly, so the fragrance is bound deep in the block rather than sitting on its surface. That is what makes it last: it releases scent gradually, month after month.

Keep the block on its dish or in the open box — in a wardrobe, drawer, bathroom or hallway. For a stronger presence, scrape the surface very lightly now and then to reawaken it. The block may leave oil traces on direct contact, so let the dish do the carrying, and keep it away from children and pets. Not for use on skin.

When the scent softens after many months, it has not ended — move the block somewhere smaller. A drawer holds what a room lets go.
